Help

As hard as we’re trying to make sure everything’s intuitive, we understand that it can be a little tricky to understand everything about how the site works. Fortunately, some lovely members of our community have created guides to using Jottify (followed by some more instructions from us).

Upload guidelines for documents (.doc, .docx, .rtf, .txt)

When uploading documents, here is our guide for how your document needs to be formatted before you upload it:

  • Remove the title – your document should just start with the short description
  • Create parts using [p] [/p] tags (see below for more detailed explanation)
  • Try to keep formatting to a minimum – we will keep basic formatting like bold, italic but most formatting will be stripped as otherwise documents could look really ugly and be difficult to read

Creating parts

The way the part separation works is very important. We intend for writers to use parts to separate their work (for instance these can be used as chapters for novels, scenes for plays etc.)

To create parts in your document, you need to start each part with a title. This title should be between tags as follows:

First up, we have the introduction. This is a novel about something.

[p]Chapter 1 – Moving home[/p]

You can then carry on writing beneath the title and this text will make up the content of the part until you start a new part with, for example:

[p]Chapter 2 – My family[/p]

This is where we start writing about something new in chapter 2.

We hope this makes sense! If you have any problems, do drop us an email.
